Time in my home studio during the spring of 2020 helped me to focus on the inspiration in my own backyard. Spring in east Tennessee brings an abundant bloom of irises. I never realized until I snipped these and brought them into my studio to paint them how wonderfully fragrant they are.

One of my favorite sayings is, "When in the doubt, the world is purple," so I'm naturally drawn to the rich colors of iris flowers.
